Measuring and analysing your data can provide some great insights, but have you ever wondered about how well your site is performing compared to other businesses in your market? Well now you can with Google Benchmarking. Steve is here to tell us a bit more about it.

Benchmarking is a tool from Google which now allows you to compare your Google Analytics data vs other aggregated data from other sites in your industry.

You’ll need to categorise your business vertical and opt-in to share aggregated data – no other company can view your own specific data – and once done you’ll be able to see how your site performs against the other businesses in your industry that have also opted in. There does need to be a minimum of 100 sites in a vertical so that benchmarks can be calculated – this could be an issue if you’re in a niche market and in a smaller country, but those in larger industries and/or larger countries could really benefit from this.

While you can compare yourself to other businesses in your own industry, you can also look at other industries and compare yourself to other popular verticals and see how well your business performs against them.

As the data is all fully aggregated direct from GA accounts, there is no bias in what is presented, ensuring you get a true-to-life view of how you’re performing vs the industry aggregates.”
