Whether you’re regularly using your analytics tools to track and monitor your site or not, you should have alerts set up to make sure you get notified of any issues right away. Tuomo is going to tell us why.

“When initially setting up your analytics, one thing that should definitely be on your to-do list is to add email notifications for any unusual site behavior.

Most analytics tools will allow you to specify certain criteria and boundaries around your data sets, so that if there are any sudden changes in your data you’ll get notified of this in real-time (depending upon your email notification frequency settings). And knowing in real-time means you can immediately evaluate the possible issue, identify any site problems and fix them as soon as possible.

Alerts can be set up to monitor things such as significant drops in visitors or page views. Having this kind of information to hand will allow you to identify the problem area and allow for quicker checking of your tagging and tracking and find the issue.

If you’re using Google Analytics, you can find the option to create new alerts by navigating to your view > Reporting tab > Intelligence Events > (under Custom Alerts field) Create a Custom Alert.”
