Google continues to make its Search results more engaging and aesthetically pleasing – this time by introducing Rich Cards. Vivek has more details.
“First there were standard text results, then Rich Snippets, and now Rich Cards. Google Search is evolving and improving the mobile experience of Search for users.
Google recently announced that Rich Cards were coming to mobile users through Google.com (for English users only) and will initially cover movie and recipe results.
Rich Snippets will continue to be utilised, as both products use structured mark-up schemas from Schema.org – something that Google collaborates on along with Microsoft, Yahoo, and Yandex.
Na’ama Zohary and Elliott Ng, part of the Search Console Team and Product Management Director for Search Ecosystem respectively, describe Rich Cards as ‘For site owners, this is a new opportunity to stand out in Search results and attract more targeted users to your page. For example, if you have a recipe site, you can build a richer preview of your content with a prominent image for each dish. This visual format helps users find what they want right away, so you’re getting users who specifically want that especially delicious cookie recipe you have.‘
Testing tools such as the Structured Data Testing Tool have been updated to allow developers to tweak their mark-up and see changes and errors in real time.”
